I'd been wanting to visit El Potrero Chico for a number of years, but travel advisories and concerns about safety had kept me away. Thankfully, recent reports were positive and we decided to get the band back together.
A pretty full day of travel, including a taxi ride that felt a bit sketchy at times, on Friday got me down to Hidalgo. We stayed in La Casa Grande at La Posada, which was great. La Posada was the only spot where people were staying and it had a good restaurant (which was huge because it was a ways into town to get groceries) and a chill atmosphere.
Since I was still recovering from a partial SL ligament tear in my wrist, I took it pretty easy, but was still able to climb quite a bit since so many of the routes are on off-angle rock with good edges. We did a bunch of cragging in the Virgin Canyon, The Wave, The Surf Bowl, the Outrage Wall and the Spires. We also went up a few great multi-pitch routes including Will the Wolf Survive, Estrellita, and Space Boyz, which were great. Eric and Blaine went up Time Wave Zero one day, which I'd wanted to do, but knew my wrist wouldn't be up for. It did sound like a bit of a suffer fest.
Great trip overall and pretty accessible for a week trip from the US.
